Blake
Great song choice for Blake to show of that he can sing in addition to his ultra-cool beatboxing and dancing. Fun start to the whole evening!

Phil
Sorry Phil, but I’m getting a little bored. It was rough sounding in the beginning, but Phil’s voice sounded warmed up by the chorus. I agree this week’s genre was good for Phil and the song choice was okay. Needed more to keep me interested though.

Melinda
Girl’s got rhythm. Girl’s got style. Another technically flawless performance from Melinda!

Chris
A little ho-hum to start, but once the song picked up, Chris’ style and personality made the performance more interesting.

Jordin
At 17, Jordin sounds like an accomplished performer. Unlike Simon, I thought her “traditional” stylizing was fine.

Gina
A different performance from her usual rocker style, but Gina’s slower song choices really allow her to showcase the strength of her voice.

Sanjaya
Mr. TV Junkie and I discussed Sanjo-Panjo’s hair the entire performance and I didn’t really pay attention to the performance. DH thinks he cut his hair, but I thought it was just combed down and back. Oh.. what… he sang? Sorry, I wasn’t paying attention.

Haley
I didn’t “get” this performance. Haley is talented, but a little out of her league for a singing competition. With that said, she looks good on camera. I’m sure a good producer can turn her into the next Britney or Jessica.

Lakisha
A pitchy start, but still a strong middle and end. I still think she has much more “game” to show. Hopefully we’ll get to see a true break thru performance from her.

The judges crack me up… they complain when contestants don’t “make the song their own” and complain if it’s been changed. That’s a fine balance to achieve and often relative to the contestant performing.

I can’t wait until we reach the top 4-5 when this really becomes a singing idol competition.
