“Our best 24 yet!” - Ryan
Here’s a short recap from the evening!
The show started off with 4 instant no’s. I didn’t remember their auditions, so I was indifferent:
Ronald Hodge
Nina Shaw
Mycale Guyton
Lisa Aukerman
Carly Smithson - The Irish contestant who had problems with her work visa in an earlier season.
Her rendition of “When I need you” reminded me of Celine Dion’s strength and pure tone. Her subtle accent and facial expressions also struck me as similar to Celine.
Yes - “Let it go,” the judges tell her regarding her insecurities.
David Cook - Played his guitar for “Everything I do” by Bryan Adams
Yes
Amanda Overmyer - the female Chris Daughtry
Yes - Was anyone surprised by this??
She plays it so cool, so unlike the typical contestant. It adds to her charm and likability.
More immediate no’s:
Brandon Green
Amanda Hawkins
Buck Smith
David Archuleta -
Sang “Heaven” Bryan Adams. His charisma, passion, originality and down-to-earth quality came across in his performance. Hard to believe he’s only 16 and was told that medically he would never sing.
Yes - “Worth the wait!” he says
Kristy Lee Cook who sang “Amazing Grace”
Yes
Brooke White
“Some days I hate to say this… You’re going to be seeing a lot more of us” - Randy
They just love to torture them when they’re so emotional.
Danny Noriega - “Does my hair look okay?”
Danny has such a baby face, but he’s comfortable on stage, strong voice. I recall being slightly annoyed by his initial audition, but he really can sing/perform well and he’s growing on me.
Yes
A series of yes votes:
Jason Castro
Luke Menard (Tonight, he looked like Orlando Bloom to me)
Alexandra Lushington
(I barely remember Jason and Alexandra from the auditions)
Ramielle Malubay - another Filipina in the top 24! Maybe she and Jasmine can tour togther
“Sweet little thing” - Simon
“And talented” - Paula
Yes
More no’s:
Shaun Barrowes
Lorena Pinot
Drew Poppelreiter - “Won’t miss turkey season!”
Natasha Block - How cute was her baby boy?! Cute family! She was always in the background of the audition footage, but I don’t remember her first audition.
Michael Johns - “Best Audition” - Simon
Bohemian Rhapsody can make or break you. I thought Michael did an excellent job vocally and seems like a nice guy. Will see how he fares in the top 24.
Yes
Syesha Mercado - Lost her voice on Day 1
Her subsequent audition was powerful. Not only a good voice, but a great performer.
Yes
Yes to:
Robbie Carrico
Garrett Haley
Kady Malloy
Chikeze Eze
Amy Davis
Alaina Whittaker
Jason Yeager (any audition footage??? who is this guy)
Asia’h Epperson - Who lost her father the day before her audition. Girl can sing.
Yes
David Hernandez
Yes
Josiah Leming - the kid who lives in his car
Because of his backstory, I thought he might have a chance. Too bad dismissing the band didn’t work for him.
No
“Final” two girls
Joanne Borgella - professional model, with easy likability. Often feels dismissed for her appearance.
Cardin McKinney - She was so gracious. I was hoping she’d make it, but afraid she’d be this season’s Haley Scarnato.
“Final” two boys
Colton Berry - professional & polished voice
Kyle Ensley - The sweet politician. Simon “whole-heartedly” disagreed with this decision. Kyle is a nice guy with a great personality, attitude and outlook, but I am glad not to have another Kevin Covais or John Stevens situation.
Over 100,000 people auditioned this year! Looks like the BuddyTV spoiler from JoesPlace was right!
The good bye song played was appropriate titled “Hollywood’s not America” by Ferras
