LOST- "The Man Behind the Curtain" Pre-show Thoughts

As we near the season 3 finale of LOST (only 3 more shows!), I am so very curious how the season will end. Will we get more answers? Will they only lead to more questions? Will I end up loving or hating the finale? Will I make it until December without looking any spoilers?!? [I've been SO good this year - avoiding the forums and spoiler sites!]

Last week’s show “The Brig“, revealed a very significant connection between two of the LOSTaways, yet raised an entire slew of questions. (What are Juliet & Jack hiding? What is Ben going to show Locke? Who is Naomi? Is Kate pregnant?)

In anticipation of tonight’s epic episode, I’ve ventured out to read about “The Man Behind the Curtain”. Hopefully, we’ll learn some real answers about The Others, Dharma, and/or The Island. I love that the show is so full of connections and literary clues and so rich in ‘mythology’.

Here are a few things I have come across:

From TVGuide.com:

Lost

10 pm/ET ABC New

Locke’s dead dad means one down and four to go, doesn’t it? Charlie remains the prime target, but he should get a reprieve since he’s flashback-boy next week. Tonight, it’s Ben’s turn on center stage. As he begins to let Locke in on the island’s secrets, we’ll begin to find out some of his own, including Ben’s ties to the Dharma Initiative. Incidentally, the actress (Carrie Preston) playing Ben’s mother is the wife of Michael Emerson, the actor who plays big, bad Ben. Meanwhile, that raid on the castaway camp Ben was talking about last week was to take place in three days (island time). Does that mean it’s tonight? And why did Ben tell Locke about it, anyway? — Paul Droesch

Apparently, there are to be 3 more deaths before the end of the season? I inadvertently read a spoiler and read they were Charlie, Sayid and Kate. The first has been foreshadowed, but the last two have me baffled. I hate when they kill off characters. Although, I did get over the loss of Shannon, Boone, and Eko. I’m not sure if I would enjoy next season with these suggested deaths.

BuddyTV has a collection of links pertinent to this week’s episode and spoilers dropped by the show producers. The links to The Tailsection recount an interesting theory/literary formula possibly in play.

I love that this show could have you talking or researching for hours. I know I’ve barely touched the surface… Perhaps there is meaning behind the storylines and clues, perhaps it is merely entertainment. Either way I appreciate it for what it is worth. I only wish I didn’t have to wait so long between seasons.

(I’ll be back later with my usual show recap!)

LOST: The Man from Tallahassee

The Man from Tallahassee – Season 3, Episode 13

Moments/notes/quotes in no order:

  • Locke on disability (depression), stopped going to therapy, benefits suspended, and at the time, he is walking. By the end of the show we know it is at least 4 years earlier.
  • “This is going to be tougher than we thought”
  • Peter Talbot’s mother. Adam Seward from Ontario. Anthony Cooper
  • “Someone gave the guy his kidney, how bad can he be. Right?” [cue dark music]
  • Seeing the man they want to rescue fraternizing with the “enemy” – shouldn’t they have trusted that Jack knew what he was doing?
  • Piano music – Jack playing. There are cameras in his room.
  • John is looking for the submarine…. ? For the same reason he “got rid” of the communication station?
  • “What was that… some kind of code?”
    • “No, John, we don’t have a code for ‘there’s a man in my closet with a gun to my daughter’s head’. Although we obviously should…”
  • “Austin” and “Jarrah”. They’re here? Captured? Obviously, Kate and Sayid.
  • Ben’s on to John’s plan to blow up the sub?
  • Tustin box company
  • wheelchair for 4 years
  • “Be careful in here” (points at ears and then up) Mr. Friendly
  • I’m not with anyone Kate
  • Sayid recognizes Alex – her resemblance to her mother he says.
  • “Where do you get electricity”
    • “We have two giant hamsters running in a massive wheel in a secret underground lair…” [Given the animal research, wouldn't that be funny if this was true?! LOL]
  • What if you imagine a large box…
  • “Because you’re in the wheelchair… and I’m not.”
  • The anomaly wiped out communication with the outside world
  • Alex, RE Ben and his manipulation – “He makes you think it’s your idea, but it is his plan all along.”
  • Issues with fathers is a recurring theme of the characters
  • The whole time I kept thinking… don’t take your eyes off or turn your back on Adam Seward/Anthony Cooper! But, he did both!
  • Richard looked familiar (from another show?)
  • Ben talking about weakness v. breaking promises and finding a way out.
  • John has a connection to the island. He was able to produce something out of the box. (Or is Ben just leading him to believe so?)
  • I felt awful for Juliet not being able to go back home.
  • Previews show they are back on the beach next week.
