John Locke,
LOST,
Sawyer,
The Others
Previously on LOST
- Locke donating a kidney to his father
- Locke’s fall and broken back
- The magic box “manifested” Locke’s father
Flashback
No off-island flashbacks this week. We see Locke’s experience with Ben and The Others over the 8 days he’s been separated from the beach camp.
Moments/Quotes/Notes
- “Do you need me to walk you home?” – Sawyer
- “It’s only 5 tents, I think I can make it.”
- Cindy sighting
- “We’ve been waiting for you”
- The sneaky smile on Locke’s face knowing he lured Sawyer
- Naomi – the parachuter
- Black Rock sighting
- “Who the hell are you?”
- Danielle sighting – getting more dynamite
- “Be careful, it’s unstable” – Locke, ironically as Sawyer is trying to beat the door down
- “…Extremely special…”
- “If there were any bullets in that gun, why would you hold a knife to my thoat?”
- I’m guessing Locke’s father/Cooper is the man Sawyer has been hunting for
- The rest of the world thinks 815 crashed and there were no survivors (the bodies were all there)
- “Little hot for heaven, isn’t it;”"If this isn’t hell, then where are we?”
- Cowboys Sawyer and Locke resolve their Daddy issues
Motifs/Symbols
Oppression & Closure: Locke oppressed by his father; Sawyer by his hunt to find the man who tore his family apart; the Black Rock – a 19th century slavery ship
Karma: Sawyer vs. Sawyer
Good Stuff
We know that the majority of the Losties and their histories are inter-connected. We also know that the Others have an infinite amount of information about the Losties’ individual history and how they are connected.
I was at a loss how Locke – Ben – Sawyer were connected until Richard handed Locke Sawyer’s file. Then I realized the kidnapped Ben story was just a ruse. “The Man from Tallahassee” also made sense because I couldn’t figure out why TPTB showed Cooper as a marrying-for-money type (although I should have recognized the con).
Ben is a clever man. He knew Locke couldn’t kill his own father even after all of the strife his father caused him. He concocted the Cooper witch trial to play on Locke’s pride and sense of urgency, and then provided John with the knowledge of a man who would kill Cooper. It just so happened he was on the island at the beach (shacking up with Kate). The Others left a track-able trail for Locke, so Ben knew Locke would get the job done.
I can’t decide yet if this is good writing, or just a convenient way to tie up loose story lines. I have a feeling that Cooper’s death and Locke’s full self-actualization are just the springboard. I’ll get back to you on this after a couple more episodes…
Answers
Naomi was hired by Penny Widmore on a search and rescue mission (if she’s not an Other)
Sawyer finds his man
Questions
- Is John becoming an ‘Other’? His initial interaction with Sawyer was very Ben-like.
- What about the discovered Oceanic 815 plane with all the passengers?
- What are Jack and Juliet hiding from Kate and the Losties?
- Did Juliet tell Jack what Ben is up to (or at least whatever version Ben wants Jack to know)?
- Will Naomi’s phone work?
- Are they dead in hell or some type of purgatory?
- Are The Others really dissatisfied with Ben?
- Is Rose special too? Where the heck are Rose and Bernard???
- What is Danielle going to blow up??
Do you have any answers or theories for me?
Next Week on LOST
- “You tell me everything I want to know about the island.”
- “Once I open this door there’s no turning back.”
- Sawyer shares the tape with the rest of the Losties camp

Ben Linus,
John Locke,
LOST,
The Others
The Man from Tallahassee – Season 3, Episode 13
Moments/notes/quotes in no order:
- Locke on disability (depression), stopped going to therapy, benefits suspended, and at the time, he is walking. By the end of the show we know it is at least 4 years earlier.
- “This is going to be tougher than we thought”
- Peter Talbot’s mother. Adam Seward from Ontario. Anthony Cooper
- “Someone gave the guy his kidney, how bad can he be. Right?” [cue dark music]
- Seeing the man they want to rescue fraternizing with the “enemy” – shouldn’t they have trusted that Jack knew what he was doing?
- Piano music – Jack playing. There are cameras in his room.
- John is looking for the submarine…. ? For the same reason he “got rid” of the communication station?
- “What was that… some kind of code?”
- “No, John, we don’t have a code for ‘there’s a man in my closet with a gun to my daughter’s head’. Although we obviously should…”
- “Austin” and “Jarrah”. They’re here? Captured? Obviously, Kate and Sayid.
- Ben’s on to John’s plan to blow up the sub?
- Tustin box company
- wheelchair for 4 years
- “Be careful in here” (points at ears and then up) Mr. Friendly
- I’m not with anyone Kate
- Sayid recognizes Alex – her resemblance to her mother he says.
- “Where do you get electricity”
- “We have two giant hamsters running in a massive wheel in a secret underground lair…” [Given the animal research, wouldn't that be funny if this was true?! LOL]
- What if you imagine a large box…
- “Because you’re in the wheelchair… and I’m not.”
- The anomaly wiped out communication with the outside world
- Alex, RE Ben and his manipulation – “He makes you think it’s your idea, but it is his plan all along.”
- Issues with fathers is a recurring theme of the characters
- The whole time I kept thinking… don’t take your eyes off or turn your back on Adam Seward/Anthony Cooper! But, he did both!
- Richard looked familiar (from another show?)
- Ben talking about weakness v. breaking promises and finding a way out.
- John has a connection to the island. He was able to produce something out of the box. (Or is Ben just leading him to believe so?)
- I felt awful for Juliet not being able to go back home.
- Previews show they are back on the beach next week.
